The Ornithological Society of Japan will publish a new English language journal named "Ornithological Science" from January 2002. The journal will appear twice a year and the editorial board is now preparing the first issue while receiving manuscripts for those issues that will follow. "Ornithological Science" will convey in any field of ornithology. We intend to favour articles submitted by ornithologists working in East and South-East Asia, but we will consider submissions from elsewhere also. The precise format of manuscripts is still under consideration but current submissions require a title, name and address of the author(s) with the e-mail address of the corresponding author, an abstract, keywords, and main text of the paper, and a reference list.
Manuscripts are critically appraised by two independent referees and the editor. The abstracts of those that are suitable for publication will be translated into Jananese to appear in our Japanese language journal, "Japanese Journal of Ornithology."
The membership system and annual fees are now under consideration.
The new journal will have the commonly encountered dimensions of 280mm x210mm, and the text will be presented in double columns on high quality paper.
The address to which articles may be submitted is:
to Dr. Teruaki HINO
Kansai Research Center, Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute,
Kyoto 612-0855, Japan
E-mail: tkpk@affrc.go.jp
To revise and publish the Check List of the Japanese Birds periodically, and to collect and announce information about newly recorded bird species and new distribution records, OSJ has just set up the Records Committee.
