1. Authorship
Membership in the Membrane Society of Japan is not a prerequisite for submission of research articles. However, at least one of the authors should be a member of the Society.

2. Acceptance of papers
Papers will be reviewed by member(s) of the Editorial Committee or reviewer(s) who are selected for their competence in the subject matter of the submitted paper. Acceptance of the submitted paper will depend upon scientific merit and suitability for the Journal.

3. Copyright
Copyright of papers accepted for publication in the Journal belongs to the Membrane Society of Japan.

4. Types of papers
Four types of papers are accepted:

4.1. Full papers
1) Full papers are formal presentation of unpublished original research on membranes.
2) Generally, a maximum of six printed pages. All manuscripts should be prepared on A4 paper double spaced with 45 strokes 18 lines. A maximum of the typed page is 24 including title of the paper, abstract, abbreviations, literatures cited, figures, tables and photographs. Each figure, table and photograph is equivalent to one typed page. A table containing line(s) with more than 45 strokes is counted as 2 typed pages.
4.2. Technical papers
1) Technical papers should include novel data and significant improvement in membrane technology.
2) Manuscript preparation must adhere to the format of the full papers.
4.3. Short communications
1) Short communications are short but should contain scientifically valuable results.
2) Manuscript preparation must adhere to the format of the full paper. A maximum of the typed page is 18 including title of the paper, abstract, abbreviations, literatures cited, figures, tables and photographs.
4.4. Rapid communications
1) Rapid communications are brief report of the original research on membrane which requires prompt publication.
2) Manuscript preparation must adhere to the format of the full paper. A maximum of the typed page is 12 including title of the paper, abstract, abbreviations, literatures cited, figures, tables and photographs.
5. Manuscript preparation
5.1. Title and author(s)
Title of the paper, author's names (first names, middle initials, if any, and surnames), affiliation(s) and address(es) should be presented.
5.2. Tables, figures and photographs
Table should be typed on a separated sheet. Figure should be of high quality, black print on a white background. Photograph should be glossy print with sharp contrast. Author(s) will be charged for printing costs of color photographs.
5.3. Symbols
Subscripts and superscripts with subscripts or superscripts must not be used.
5.4. Literature cited
Literature cited appears at the end of the paper. Cite each listed literature in the text by numbers with superscript. Provide information as in the following examples:
Journal 1) Sumida Y, Miyajima K : Maku (Membrane), 25, 257-263 (2000)
Book 9) Barrer RM : "Diffusion in Polymers", Crank J, Park GS ed., Chap. 6, Academic Press, London (1968)
5.5. Abstract
Summary should not exceed 200 words for full paper and technical paper, and 50 words for short and rapid communications. Key words are required and should not exceed 5 words. Each key word should be separated with / from others.

6. Proofreadings and reprints
Author(s) must proofread galley. No page charges are required and authors can obtain 20 free reprints. Author(s) who need additional reprints should purchase a minimum of 50 reprints at the prescribed prices and order when the corrected galley proofs are sent.

7. Submitting manuscripts
One original and three copies of the manuscript should be submitted with the floppy disk containing files to the Editorial Committee of the journal shown below. Files must be Windows text or Macintosh text. Identify the type of the computer used and the software package.
